Rean Thort (រៀនថត), founded by Sopheak CHENG in 2014, has become one of Cambodia’s most influential platforms for photography enthusiasts. What began as a simple channel to teach basic photography techniques has grown into a comprehensive hub that includes educational content, product reviews, vlogs, and engaging podcasts. With nearly a decade of consistent content creation, Rean Thort has built a strong following, amassing 1.59 million followers across major social media platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

Sopheak CHENG, a Middlebury College graduate, launched Rean Thort shortly after completing his education in the United States. His first video, which focused on photo editing, marked the beginning of a journey to share his passion for photography. Over time, he diversified his content to cover foundational photography techniques and rules applicable to both smartphone and digital camera users. Recognizing the need for more technical knowledge, he expanded into videography, offering lessons on using professional gear and software.

His tutorials include in-depth guidance on widely-used software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Lightroom. These lessons have empowered his audience to navigate the world of photography and videography with confidence, making complex tools more accessible to users of all skill levels.

In addition to tutorials, Rean Thort’s content extends to travel vlogs, where Sopheak introduces his audience to global perspectives on photography and videography. By documenting his travels and professional experiences in other countries, he provides viewers with insights into the techniques and practices of international professionals. These vlogs not only inspire his audience to explore new horizons but also showcase the cultural and technical diversity of the creative industries.

Sopheak also reviews photography and videography products, helping his audience understand the features, functionality, and quality of various tools. Expanding his platform’s scope, Sopheak launched the Rean Podcast (រៀនផតខាស់), which has become a sensation among Khmer audiences. Now in its fourth season, the podcast has over 100 episodes, each featuring a unique theme and guest. Sopheak has interviewed a wide array of influential figures, including Jean-Paul Ly, a Cambodian-American stunt performer who has worked on major Hollywood productions, and Vannda, a renowned rapper who performed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closing ceremony.

One of the podcast’s standout qualities is its ability to tell compelling stories. Sopheak invites guests from diverse industries—arts, entertainment, and even politics—to share their journeys, challenges, and successes. Notable guests include H.E. Hun Many, the Minister of Ministry of Civil Service in Cambodia, whose interview shed light on leadership and public service.

Sopheak’s mission is to amplify voices that are rarely heard. “The reason I invite powerful and influential people to my podcast is to provide a platform for stories that we don’t often hear,” he explained. This approach has resonated with listeners, particularly when the podcast addresses sensitive issues like mental health. Many fans have expressed gratitude for episodes that have helped them navigate personal struggles, demonstrating the podcast’s profound impact.
